Introduction

This document describes the methodology to use the WOWZA based multiscreen streaming solution developed by ODMedia. As this solution is a work in progress, new versions of this document will appear on a regular basis. Future plans are announced in the TO DO section at the end of this document.

The ODMedia streaming platform uses HTTP Live Streaming to provide a multiscreen, multidevice experience to the end user. Additionally progressive download, download-to-own, DIVX downloads for connected TV’s, and RTMP fallback methods are provided to offer a robust platform to accommodate most end user scenario’s either using Flash, HTML5, or Silverlight. Security is available in the form of secure token and session id’s, allowing payment modules to connect to the system. Several custom provisions have been made to enhance sales and user friendliness.

The system creates playlists for the different devices based on multi bitrate versions of the same content item. For downloading, single bitrate can be targeted. The end user gets either a HTML5 or Flash player, or a smil or rss playlist with the different multi bitrates available. To protect the content every client will get a unique token to a video. The end user gets a unique name for the smil or rss playlist whose source is filled with the unique video tokens. The reflector will generate these unique smils or rss with these unique tokens.
